The Pinkie Promise
Dale Copeland, 2025
A small glass & brass display case, a book and a stone made into a relic.
12 x 10 x 6 cm

I originally titled this one 'The Jesuits' Promise' but read on ...

Some sources say the quote "Show me the child until he is 7 and I will show you the man" was from the writings of Aristotle.
Others say it was the Jesuits with "Give me the boy until he is 7 and I will have him for life".
To me it's the self binding of a child's promise. Almost impossible to leave.
So finally I gave it the title "The pinkie promise" ... the binding nature of a child's promise, sealed by linked little fingers.
I have known many who were raised with a strict belief system.
Hard to leave, and always that residual guilt.
The little book, "Garden of the Soul", sealed with the stone icon, was my grandmother's.
She was raised as a Catholic.
