ARTIST STATEMENT: I like challenging myself. I have always had an interest in portraiture but have had issues asking people to sit as I am largely self taught and not confident I know enough.

My new goal is to do a portrait series.

My aim is to capture a person engaging with the viewer as if in conversation. Eye contact is important for people to feel a sense of wellbeing and connection so that is what I want the viewer to feel. I also want the portrait to say something about the subject: who they are, what interests them so I put some context clues.

Rather than an artist statement for each work, I invite the subject to provide their own written statement about their life, thoughts and values to accompany their portrait. This is the second in the series but I imagine collecting the series into a book.

I also paint landscapes, and 3D abstracts in a variety of media.

For the last 20 years I have worked sculptures in andesite stone and received my first angle grinder aged 55 as a Christmas gift from my supportive husband. My last sculpture symposium I participated in was 2018 when I was 73. I have more works in progress.
