Expressions in Black and White
acrylic on paper
40"x50"
by Karen Poulson, 83

This piece is from a recent group of work in which I am striving for a resolution of opposites.
They are a combination of impulse and decision, form and energy, mass and void, external vs. internal and, death and regeneration.
This particular image has to do with the Japanese concept of "Wabi sabi" and the idea that things have beauty as they age and transition, and that there is value in imperfection.

I feel so fortunate to still be painting at the age of 83 and to still be striving to express visually what I have no words for.
