Why oval shaped paintings?
Most of the art traditions work in rectangles with a few exceptions like “the tondo,”– round paintings or “fresco,” which conforms to the shape of the ceiling it on.
However, looking out your eyes right now your looking through an oval not a rectangle - Your field of vision has no corners. This changes the compositional field problems, but once your vision connects to the oval, the absence of the corners is satisfying and intensifying.

Donna Willard-Moore lives in coastal Taranaki, New Zealand
